Carbocisteine

500 mg CAPSULE
MUCOLYTIC

FORMULATION
Each capsule contains:
Carbocisteine ……………………………………………… 500 mg

INDICATIONS
For the relief of cough associated with excessive and tenacious bronchial secretions as in acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, bronchial asthma and pulmonary emphysema.

ADVERSE EFFECTS AND PRECAUTIONS
Nausea and gastric discomfort, gastrointestinal bleeding, and skin rash have occasionally occurred with carbocisteine.
Since mucolytics may disrupt the gastric mucosa barrier, carbocisteine should be used with caution in patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease.

PHARMACOKINETICS
Carbocisteine is rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract with peak plasma concentrations occurring 90 to 120 minutes after an oral dose. It appears to penetrate into lung tissue and respiratory mucus. Carbocisteine is excreted in the urine as unchanged drug and metabolites. Acetylation decarboxylation, and sulfoxidation have been identified as the major metabolic pathways. Sulfoxidation may be governed by genetic polymorphism.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Usual Adult Dose: 750 mg three times daily, reduced by one-third when a response is obtained.
Or as prescribed by the physician.

Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
