PLAQUENIL 200 MG TABLET
Indications / Uses : Treatment of RA, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, discoid & SLE & dermatological conditions caused or aggravated by sunlight.
Administration : Should be taken with food: Take w/ a meal or a glass of milk.
Contraindications : Hypersensitivity. Preexisting maculopathy of the eye. Pregnancy. Childn <6 yr.
Special Precautions : Carry out ophth exam before treatment & at least annually. Cardiomyopathy resulting in cardiac failure (in some cases w/ fatal outcome). Hepatic or renal disease, GI, neurological, or blood disorders. Sensitivity to quinine, G6PD deficiency, porphyria, psoriasis. Perform periodic blood counts. Young childn. Long-term therapy (perform periodic exam of skeletal muscle function & tendon reflexes). Malaria (not effective against chloroquine-resistant strains of P. falciparum & is not active against the exo-erythrocytic form of P. vivax, P. ovale & P. malariae & therefore will neither prevent infection due to these organisms when given prophylactically, nor prevent relapse of infection due to these organisms). Hypoglycemic patients. May impair ability to drive & operate machinery.
